Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2020

I hope that the end of 2020 is kind to all of us, but I’m still waiting for the millionth shoe to drop. Today, I am excited to write. I’m excited to look back at my reading progress for this year, because with all of the crazy, sometimes I manage to find peace in books. So far, this year, I have read a whopping 56 books (of which 5 were non-fiction). I have DNFed one book, and most of the books that I have read have been 4 stars.

I am grateful that we made it this far, and I’m so ready to finish out this year. I’m ready for cool months and cozy campfires. I’m ready for this year to be over for a multitude of reasons, one of the happier ones being that I would love to know how many books I will end the year having read.

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2020?

This year brought me adult romance, and I could not be happier that I had these novels to escape to. I absolutely adored Evvie Drake Starts Over and Beach Read. These books made me laugh and cry and I would definitely read again.

What is your favorite sequel of the first half of the year?

I haven’t read many sequels this year, or made it through as many series as I had intended, but there’s time to change all that. What I wouldn’t change is the Scythe series. So good, and so glad that I got to this one. All the hype a few years ago really threw me off, but I’m glad that I picked it up – with the help of some friends.

Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited to?

Priory of the Orange Tree. Giant book. Much stress. Yike.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

The Lying Life of Adults by Elena Ferrante. I frickin’ LOVE this author’s writing and I’ve only read My Brilliant Friend and holy moly that novel was such a ride. I legitimately could not put it down, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about the characters. I can’t wait to finish that series, but I’m going to need to be in the right state to read them. I want to savor this author’s words and I want to give the series the time that it deserves. And, I would like to finish the Neopolitan Novels before picking up The Lying Life of Adults.

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

Vampire Kisses re-read. definitely thought that this one was better than it actually was. I remember reading it in… maybe 2008ish… and I adored this book and I was SO SHOCKED by the ending and after a re-read this year I felt very meh about it all. Overall, a very early 2000’s read.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

I think I might like thrillers… but hate horror movies? I loved Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine (also, I was very happy to find that I still love her writing style) and as someone who avoids horror movies at all costs this one definitely shocked me.

Who is your fictional crush from this year?

umm… no clue. absolutely no answer for this one right now. don’t even wanna think about it.

Who is your new favorite character?

Lehaba from Crescent City. If you know, you know.

A book that made you happy?

The Bromance Book Club and Undercover Bromance definitely made me laugh and smile when I needed to the most. Thank you to a good friend for recommending this one to me. But, I also really enjoyed reading The Nightingale and talking about it with my Nana. We both read, but don’t often read the same things. It was great to connect with her in that way, this year.

Your favorite book to movie/tv show that you’ve seen so far?

I’ve been rewatching To All The Boys a whole bunch because this year I’ve been in need of light feel-good vibes. I would love to hear some movie/tv-show recs if anyone has any!

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

I haven’t bought many books this year, but I think the one with the prettiest cover would have to be House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas. I love the red coloring and the intricate detail of the gates, not to mention the end pages are gorgeous.

What is your favorite post that you have written so far this year?

Uh…. I don’t have one? I haven’t really written anything that I’m super proud of yet. But, like a lot of things, I’m working on it.

What are 6 books that you want to read by the end of the year?

I am very open to buddy reads, so if you’re also interested in reading any of these and would like to read with someone – definitely send me a message.
