9 Series I finished in 2020

This year, I think, was the year for finishing series. I’ve finished way more series than I normally do, and I’ve started way less series than typical. Thank goodness. A few of these are series that I started years ago and am just now getting around to finish and dang did it feel good to cross these off of my list. The only thing that I think feels better is a good series unhaul. Some of these, I’ve started this year and some of them aren’t finished as a whole series yet. I plan to continue my series-finishing streak in 2021 – look out for my Series I Plan to Finish post, coming soon!

Well Met, Jen Deluca

I started this series this year and I am so glad that I did. I have always wanted to go to a Renaissance faire and have just never gotten around to it. This year was the year that I was going to make that happen. Unfortunately, this year didn’t go to plan in that regard but this series gave me all the right vibes in the mean time. I plan to continue this series with Well Matched in 2021.

  1. Well Met
    ★★★★
  2. Well Played
    ★★★

The Bromance Book Club, Lyssa Kay Adams

This series, y’all. THIS SERIES. I love it. 10/10 would recommend. This friend group is hilarious, and the books themselves are sometimes heart wrenching but mostly fun. This series is so, so fun. And it’s also one that I can’t wait to continue in 2021 with Isn’t It Bromantic?

  1. The Bromance Book Club
    ★★★★★
  2. Undercover Bromance
    ★★★★★
  3. Crazy Stupid Bromance
    ★★★★

Rebel Belle, Rachel Hawkins

This series I started way back when it was first released in… 2014. Wow! Six–almost seven–whole years ago. I had so much fun with Rebel Belle and unfortunately the next two in the trilogy didn’t live up to the first book for me, but oh my goodness did I have fun diving back into this world.

  1. Rebel Belle
    ★★★★
  2. Miss Mayhem
    ★★
  3. Lady Renegades
    ★★★

Villains: Vicious and Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

This series is beloved by many, and I can most definitely see why. The first book kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to know what was going to happen next. I just didn’t connect with the text the way many others have. And y’all I really thought that this duology was going too be 5 stars.

  1. Vicious
    ★★★
  2. Vengeful
    ★★★★

Monsters of Verity, Victoria Schwab

Once again, I wanted so badly to five star this series. The first book was awesome. I loved the writing style, the foiling and the lyricism. Maybe it had just been too long since stepping into the world that I disconnected from it. Overall, the series was enjoyable and I did absolutely adore the way that the characters connected. Schwab is so, so talented. However, something about the second book just didn’t land right for me.

This Savage Song ★★★★

Our Dark Duet ★★★

Scythe, Neal Shusterman

With the guidance of two close friends I picked up Scythe for a buddy read and just could not put it down. Then, immediately chain read Thunderhead and The Toll with them as well. This series was awesome, un-put-down-able. The stakes were high and the story was well executed. I am so glad for bookish friends.

  1. Scythe
    ★★★★
  2. Thunderhead
    ★★★★★
  3. The Toll
    ★★★

The Illuminae Files, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

  1. Illuminae
    ★★★★★
  2. Gemina
    ★★★★
  3. Obsidio
    ★★★

The Summer Series, Jenny Han

This series is wrapped in heavy nostalgia for me – almost suffocated with it, actually. And, as much as I enjoyed this read I can’t in good conscious not mention some of the problematic content. This series does include slurs (LGBTQ+ slurs, and use of the ‘r’ word) which do absolutely nothing for the story itself. The series as a whole would have been much better without the use of these words.

  1. The Summer I Turned Pretty
    ★★★★★
  2. It’s Not Summer Without You
    ★★★★
  3. We’ll Always Have Summer
    ★★★★

The Brown Sisters, Talia Hibbert

This series was so good y’all! I wish I would’ve picked it up sooner, but I am glad that I read them basically back to back. These sisters are so laugh out loud funny, and the stories genuinely put me in a better mood. I can’t wait for the third installment, Act Your Age, Eve Brown, set to release in 2021!

  1. Get a Life, Chloe Brown
    ★★★★
  2. Take a Hint, Dani Brown
    ★★★★★
