I was so ready to get this year over with that I almost forgot to write a December wrap up! Ahh!
It feels so weird to be writing this. Strange, to think that this year went by so quickly but also at the same time it feels as though this year was tortuously slow. This has been my best reading year to date, and I’m blaming most of that on corona and the rest of it on this past June. December, however, did not let me down. I used this month to finish quite a few series that I have had open for a while, and also was able to read many new releases. This was also the month for short books, and I’m not mad about it.

I started with Romance and read In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren and Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams. I enjoyed both books tremendously! They were both laugh-out-loud funny and definitely got me to smily just a little bit this month.
In a Holidaze was so cute and the story made me want to lay under the tree. Too bad that we donated our artificial tree in 2019, expecting to get a real tree in 2020 and then the tree shortages hit. I settled for a cup of spiked hot chocolate instead.

Crazy Stupid Bromance was such a quick read! I always wish I would remember to savor this series, but the stories are just so addictive. Computers? Cats? Coffee? What’s not to like.

After quite a few bad days in a row, I picked up Didn’t See That Coming by Rachel Hollis. I wasn’t originally planning to read this book. I’m wary of Rachel Hollis’s content. I have read two of her other books: Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing and they didn’t really mesh with me the way that I had expected that they would, but this one was a little different. It got me through a rough patch and I am grateful that I read this book at just the right time.

Next, I re-read the first two and finished the third book in the Summer series by Jenny Han. I had picked up this series a few years ago and loved it. This read through, I found some problematic content that took me out of the series. Overall, the series was enjoyable but those moments definitely took me right out of the story. I plan to review this series in the future and will be writing out more of my thoughts then.

- The Prince and the Toll, Rainbow Rowell
- Hazel and Gray, Nic Stone
- The Princess Game, Soman Chainani
- The Cleaners, Ken Liu
- The Wickeds, Gayle Foreman
After that series, I picked up and chain read another. The Faraway series was a collection that I didn’t know that I needed in my life until I had read it. This series was so short (like, less than 100 pages per book, short) and so powerful, I enjoyed every page! Highly recommend if you love fairy tales with a twist. I especially enjoyed The Wickeds!

File N°002 | This title… which I still have no idea how to say out loud. If you have any idea, please let me know. This one is definitely the shortest story that I have read this year. A prequel to the Themis Files series and definitely something to get me back in the space-story mindset. Sylvain Neuvel got me again.
Keeping with the space theme, I finally, FINALLY, finished the Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff! It’s taken so long but I did it. And, I wasn’t disappointed by Obsidio.
Christmas Eve, I picked up How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate stories and read it in chunks all day. The artwork in this one is amazing, and I hope to read more from Holly Black in the future.
I also finished the Ice Knights series by Avery Flynn, and I enjoyed it as well! Not only is Loud Mouth my favorite cover of the series, I think it was also my favorite story of the series. Hate to love cabin romance with a no bed trope? Yes, y’all! Yes. Review to come!
How was your December? Read anything good? Anything not so good? I’d love to hear about it. Feel free to drop your wrap up links in the comments!
Looks like a good reading month!
