Off the Grid Readathon TBR | Jan 15-17 2021

This readathon was created by Shanah from Bionic Bookworm (YouTube) and Justine from I Should Read That in 2019. Read the original post here, watch the video announcement here, and follow @OffTheGridReads on Twitter.

For quite a few years now I’ve been tempted to buy a cabin in the woods to renovate it and live full time. There’s something alluring about living a more simple life off the beaten path. This readathon, I think, is as close as I am going to get for now. I have also fallen victim to phone-related distractions. Audiobooks have been my jam lately, and often I find myself wandering through Twitter threads or Facebook posts or falling down Pinterest rabbit holes while listening. And then comes the process of rewinding and re-listening to a chapter to understand what I had just heard. While I do enjoy a casual read from time to time, I am hoping that this readathon allows me to focus more completely on the books that I’m reading.

Firstly, I would like to continue with the progress that I’ve mad in The Themis Files series by Sylvain Neuvel… which means finally getting to the final book in the series: Only Human. I think it’s about time for me to finish a space-type series, and hopefully cross this off of my 2021 TBR! I have the audio version of this one from Libby, and was gifted a pet-loved copy by my good friend, Layali, last year. I’m loving this series and I can’t wait to learn what happens with this butt-kicking cast of characters!

The last book on my Off the Grid Readathon TBR is House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I by no means think that I am going to finish this book, but I would like to at least start it. Julie from Pages and Pens is hosting a buddy read on Twitter (search the hashtag #HOLBR), and I can’t wait to buddy read this book with them, and my good friend Andi! I’ve been meaning to read this book since… 2012-ish, but it was just so intimidating that I put it on the back burner for so long that I blocked it out of my mind! Julie’s buddy read and Andi’s generosity brought this one to my fullest attention, and I can’t wait to start it!

The Off the Grid readathon begins at 12:00 AM in your time zone on Friday and ends on Sunday at 11:59 PM in your time zone. During this readaton, you’re encouraged to not touch your phone while reading. (A concept!). I would like to physically read a book or two, but I don’t know if I have it in me right now to commit to that particular challenge, so I plan to listen to a few audiobooks (and stay off my phone while listening to them!).

Have any good reading plans for the weekend? Are you participating in the Off the Grid readathon? Read or want to read any of the books that I’ve mentioned? Interested in a buddy read? Let me know in the comments down below. 😊
