Wrap Up | Off the Grid Readathon | January 15-17, 2021.

If you’re interested in more information about the Off the Grid Readathon, feel free to check them out on Twitter! But, essentially, this readathon is quarterly and promotes reading without distractions… which is something that lately I have been prone to do. I decided to take a weekend and get back into the basics of reading.

Y’all, I really tried. And, I don’t want to say that I “failed” this readathon, but I did end up picking up my phone while reading a few times. I do think that it is good to note that each time I was consciously aware that I broke free of reading and sent a text, or checked my email. I think that this readathon I succeeded in not just blindly opening social media. And, in addition to that, I also did not spend nearly as much time online mindlessly scrolling as I usually do with audiobooks. Overall, this was a really good experience for me.

I did complete my primary book for my TBR, Only Human by Sylvain Neuvel. And, with that, I’ve finished reading the Themis Files series! I get to cross that one off of my 2021 Series TBR, which I’ve read the physical book while listening to the audiobook. I’m thinking of doing a series book talk, but I think this one might have to sit with me for a little bit. Especially after the last companion novella (like REALLY WHAT WAS THAT EVEN?! I NEED ANSWERS!).

I had missed physical books so much, and this readathon got me back to that medium for a little bit. I had heard a little about this one about 10ish years ago and I’ve been intimidated by it ever since. And then, when I saw it pop up on Julie from Pages and Pens’ buddy read list, I decided to give it a try. I started House of Leaves with my good friend Andi (BookTube) and I got a teensy bit through the book – which is all I had planned to do originally. This one is wild, and unfortunately my work schedule only allowed for a solid two days of reading. But, I think I did well.

I think I’m going to call this one a win. I didn’t hardcore follow the rules, but I read something, and I didn’t touch my phone at all while physically reading (unless I actually wanted to take a break).

Many thanks to Shannah and Justine for creating and hosting this readathon! I look forward to joining again in the future!
