This month was difficult for me. I think, January was a month of avoiding with books and February a month of processing through other means. I have watched a ton of tv shows and movies in the past month. Hopefully this means that my reading evens out in March. I’d like to get back to some sense of ‘normal.’ I hope that I am able to get back into the swing of things. I’ve missed blogging. But, I’m not going to force myself to read if I’m not feeling it. And, I’m also not going to put a ton of pressure on myself to write if writing just isn’t happening. I don’t want to resent this space, so I’m taking it one day at a time. So, in chronological order, let’s get into the books that I’ve read in February:
First, I continued a buddy read with Andi and Layali. We’re slowly making our way through the House of Night series. This month was book six, Tempted. The series is so very frustrating. I want it to be good. And, it’s got some okay parts, but overall I just can’t vibe with the language, the strangely developed characters, or the messages. The problematic aspects outweigh the plot overall.
Then, we continued our buddy reading with something good: The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo. This one was also the only book that I have read this month that is on my February WTR. Daniel J. Sollinger has created some stunning artwork to complement Bardugo’s beautifully crafted stories. These short stories captivated me at a time when nothing else really held my attention. And this book was so, so pretty. Bardugo is one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to see how these stories interact with King of Scars.
Afterward, I picked up A Court of Thorns and Roses for a re-read. Ideally I would have finished all three in the ACOTAR series before A Court of Silver Flames arrived on my doorstep, but that just didn’t happen this month. I am hoping to re-read the series before the next Tome Topple.
And then, my final book of February 2021: The Heiress Gets a Duke by Harper St. George. This is my first historical romance in a good while, and I am so glad to say that I enjoyed this one. I was as entranced by the cover as I was entertained by the story. It had a hate-to-love romance with a smart heroine and a fist-fighting hero and I couldn’t be more here for these two. I’m looking forward to the second book!
